Tending the Fire - What Do You Need Today?

I drafted a different newsletter for today and then realized this would be going out the day after the election... so I’m pivoting and offering some questions to meet this moment.

What do you need today?

It’s been an especially tense and exhausting election season and today is devastating. If ever there was a time to practice self-care, this is it.

So, dearest reader, instead of a story, I place before you a handful of gentle check-in questions as we move through this time because we don’t need more to consume today, we need to rest and digest. We need to take good care. May you explore them with compassion and without judgment.

  1. What do I need today?

  2. Do I need to be alone or would it feel more comforting to be with others?

  3. Do I need to feel my feelings or do I need some space from them?

  4. Would scrolling on social media feel helpful today, or would a break feel more supportive?

  5. What’s one thing I could do today to bring me a sense of comfort? For example, is there a food, beverage, song, movie, book, scent, or activity that would feel nice today? Can I engage with that now?

Lastly, perhaps you take note of your responses: what stands out to you? What action might you take today in service of your needs? What might you say “no” to in service of your needs?

And if it would feel helpful to journal it out and have your thoughts/feelings witnessed in confidence, know that I’m here. Feel free to email me anytime. We’re in this together.

Easy does it,
